Halloween Crafts for Kids

Create Your Own Halloween Decorations With These Easy Halloween Crafts for Kids

Halloween is the time for spooky ghosts, glowing jack-o-lanterns, and frightening mummies to stroll around the streets make lots of noise. While all the fright and horror might seem fun for adults and teens, there are often some little ones who would rather not be scared. Whether you are entertaining your child’s elementary class or simply looking for a Halloween kids craft to do at home, the following are some simple ideas that will keep Halloween fun for the little ones:

Mummy Cups
Use these mummy cups as snack holders during a movie or to hand out to special trick-or-treaters. To make these fun Halloween crafts for kids, you will need:

  • Craft glue AND a glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Orange and Black felt
  • Medium-sized craft googly eyes
  • White cotton fabric (perhaps from an old t-shirt)
  • 3-ounce paper cups

Take the fabric and cut it into 1″x6″ strips. Apply glue from the glue stick to the back side of a strip and wrap it around a cup (having it crooked or bumpy gives it character). Press it in place and continue to do this until the entire cup is covered. Cut bows that are about 1/2″ tall and 1″ wide out of the felt pieces. Use the craft glue to give your “boy” cups bow ties and your “girl” cups a bow on their head. Attach two googly eyes to each cup with craft glue.

Ghostly Paper Plate
This ghostly paper plate can be made to hang on your child’s bedroom door to scare the monsters away. For this fun kid’s craft, you will need:

  • White paper plates
  • Black permanent marker
  • White construction paper
  • Crepe paper, white
  • White string or yarn
  • Tape
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

Using the black marker, draw a face on the paper plate. Trace your child’s hand and forearm twice on the white paper. Cut out and glue the arms to the back of the plate, so that one sticks out on each side. Cut 4-6 strips of crepe paper, about 2-ft long and glue them to the back of the plate to hang down and be the “body” of the ghost. Cut a 12″ piece of yarn or string, make it into a loop, and tape the ends to the back of the top of the plate to use as a hanger.

Lollipop Friends
Dress up a Lollipop so your children will have a fun friend to carry around with them on Halloween, or you can give it out as a special treat that will impress the trick or treaters.

Place it onto the felt piece and wrap a silver twist tie around the stick at the base of the sucker, securing the cellophane and felt. Cut little triangle fangs out of a white address label and stick them to the “head”. Glue small googly eyes above the fangs.

Ghost Pops
Items Needed:

  • Lollipops
  • White fabric
  • Black ribbon
  • Black permanent marker

Spider Pops
Items Needed:

  • Red, black or brown suckers
  • 4 pipe cleaners per sucker (same color as the suckers)
  • Googly eyes

Wrap 4 pipe cleaners in matching colors around the stick at the base of the sucker so that you have 8 spider legs coming from different directions. Glue 2 googly eyes onto each sucker and you have yourself a spider pop!
